Downtown Geneva has established itself as a destination for dining and drinks in recent years. But, on any given night, it’s not uncommon to find live music as well in Microclimate Wine Bar or The Linden Social Club or Lake Drum Brewery. Kashong Creek Craft Cider at the corner of Linden and Castle Streets is hosting live music nearly every night of the week. Owner Dan Bissell says it didn’t start that way.
Many of the musicians that play at Kashong are familiar faces around the area, but Bissell books touring artists as well. Austin MacRae is a singer songwriter from Ithaca. He played a few nights as at Kashong as a solo act and with his musical partner Casey Widger. When two other singer songwriters reached out to him about setting up a few showcase dates, MacRae reached out to Bissell.
As the name suggests, a songwriters’ showcase is intended to show off the work of musicians who place a premium on the lyrics. While Kashong isn’t specifically a listening room, MacRae says his past experiences there convinced him that it would be a good venue for listeners who like a well-crafted song.
Sunday night’s songwriters showcase will feature Austin MacRae along with another Ithaca-based musician, Quona Hudson. They’ll be joined by New Jersey-based Emily Barnes. Barnes just appeared as a New Folk Finalist at the Kerrville Folk Festival, one of the most prestigious venues for songwriters in the nation. The show begins Sunday night, June 11th at 8:00 p.m. at Kashong Creek Craft Cider.
