New inductees into the Rochester Music Hall of Fame

There are five new inductees into the Rochester Music Hall of Fame, which is preparing for its annual ceremony at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre in April.

Board members announced the inductees, including Al Jardine, a founding member of the Beach Boys who spent some of his youth here in Rochester.

Other inductees include Emmy Award-winning composer Jack Alloco, a Rochester native who has composed music for “The Young and the Restless,” and “The Bold and Beautiful,” reaching a daily audience of 26 million people.

Folk singer Christine Lavin has performed for more than three decades, and just recently released her 23rd album.

Jeff Springut is a long-time producer whose name is synonymous with the Red Creek, a music club he ran for nearly three decades.

The final inductee is radio station WCMF, which has had a rock format for 50 years.  On air personality Dave Kane will also be honored for his contributions to music and the community.

Producer of the hall of fame’s annual induction ceremony, Bruce Pilato, maintains Rochester’s rich music heritage will provide for many more inductees down the line.

``There’s a lot of great people that we still be inducting down the road…we need to tell people about the history of the music in this community is very rich and very vibrant,” he said.

Jack Whittier is president of the board of directors of the RMHF.

He says the Hall has a new home at 26 Gibbs Street, and is now offering programs year-round.

``We’re looking to have 40 to 50 performances or events here every year.  So we’re going to evolve from the one-hit wonder of just having an induction ceremony to a 12 month a year organization,” he said.

The eighth annual Rochester Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held April 28th at Kodak Hall.

Allocco, Jardine, and Lavin have made commitments to perform at the ceremony.

Paul Simon was a surprise guest at last year’s show.
