del Lago ready for sports betting partnership with DraftKings

Sports betting isn’t quite ready to be used by casinos in New York State, but if and when that happens, an area resort plans to partner with a company that is well known in the world of fantasy sports.

Seneca County based del Lago Resort & Casinohas entered into an agreement with DraftKings, the daily fantasy sports company, that would see DraftKings operating a sports betting operation at del Lago.

The U.S. Supreme Court struck down a federal ban on sports gambling this past May, but the state legislature left Albany last month without passing a new law that would allow sports betting at casinos and other venues.

Co-chairman for del Lago, Brent Stevens, says Draft Kings would provide a tremendous move forward for the casino, utilizing one of the most recognizable brands in sports.

The agreement between the two companies also enables both partners to create a mobile and online sports wagering option in New York State should the legislature authorize online sports betting.

New York is expected to be prime territory for companies getting into the sports betting market. A longtime rival of Draft Kings, called FanDuel, has a similar partnership in the works with Tioga Downs in the Southern Tier.
