Demonstrations Spread to Rep. Reed Offices Outside Geneva

IMG_4331.JPG

Last Tuesday afternoon, hundreds of people gathered on Exchange Street in downtown Geneva to demonstrate their opposition to a variety of Trump administration policies and appointments as well as Congressman Tom Reed’s support of them. The large turnout inspired organizers, including BrienAshdown, to return to Reed’s office again this today. The demonstrations are growing to include other communities Reed represents.

“People have decided on their own to plan these, I think they’re being called, sister rallies in Corning and in Ithaca at the same time our rally is here in Geneva. So, I don’t know if it’s grassroots, but it’s very community-based. People are planning their own rallies in their own communities. I’m focusing on Geneva and there have been other great people taking on the rallies in Ithaca and Corning all driven by local community people.”

Ashdown hopes the demonstration will get Reed’s attention and encourage communication with his constituents, though he himself has found one line of communication cut. Ashdown recently found himself blocked from Reed’s official Twitter account.

“If I were in his position, I would be a little concerned about the response that he’s getting in his district. I know we have a hashtag #ReedsLastTerm that I’m sure makes him a little uncomfortable.”

This afternoon’s demonstrations are scheduled from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Geneva, Ithaca, and Corning.
